New Zealand Disability Support Network Conference 2012

The New Zealand Disability Support Network (NZDSN) conference is to be held at Te Papa, Wellington, from Tuesday 6 - to Thursday 8 March 2012.

The inaugural NZDSN Conference in 2011 was a great success and the NZDSN team say they have pulled together a stunning conference line-up for 2012. This features stimulating speakers, an interactive workshop programme and a Strategic Planning Forum, where attendees will explore the challenges facing the sector.

Some of the highlights include: presentations by government ministers, John Allen from b.accessible, Dr Brendan Long from NDS Australia and a performance by Australia's 'Rudely Interrupted'.

Not only are the planning team confident that this year's programme has something for everyone, but the move of venue to Wellington's Te Papa Conference Centre promises to deliver a great delegate experience and stimulating social programme.

To view the whole programme download this at www.nzdsnconf.org.nz

Early Bird registrations (and discounts) are available till 31 January and places will fill fast.

Full details are available at www.nzdsnconf.org.nz

Sponsorship for disabled people to attend the NZDSN Conference is available via Te Pou. The sponsorship can cover all, or part, of the conference registration and a contribution to travel and accommodation costs. Clear, visionary leadership by disabled people is essential for service and sector development and sponsorship of conference attendance provides opportunities for participation, networking and learning and for the voice of disabled people to be included. The total fund available for sponsorship of this conference is $10,000 so it pays to register your interest early - applications must be received by 23 January 2012.

Sencity event 19 May 2012

Sencity is a large scale music event, organised for both Deaf and hearing people. It is a unique event, as it stimulates not one, but all five senses. For example, vibrating floors mean you will FEEL the music. Dancers will perform with lightening effects and sign singers will mean that you will SEE the music. There will be food and drinks during the event, which will enable you to TASTE the music. Aroma jockeys will be sending off smells which will match the music, allowing you to even SMELL the music.

Altogether, these aspects will create an innovative multisensory experience, featuring music and dance. Sencity was very popular in 2010 and attendees clammored for a repeat event.

The next Sencity event will be held in Auckland, on 19 May 2012, after New Zealand Sign language Week. The venue is unconfirmed at this time but further advice will be posted to this website once details are finalised.
