Legal Counsel/Senior Legal Counsel

The Health and Disability commissioner promotes and protects the rights of health and disability services of consumers and facilitates the fair and efficient resolution of complaints relating to infringements of those rights.

We are seeking to appoint an experienced litigator to join the Director of Proceedings' Team in Wellington. Depending on the candidate, appointment will be made to an intermediate or senior position.

The Director of Proceedings decides on referral from the Commissioner whether to issue proceedings against providers of health and disability services. Legal Counsel will assist and appear at hearings before the Health Practitioners Disciplinary Tribunal, the Human Rights Review Tribunal and on appeal to the High Court.

You will need:

  • Experience in undertaking and managing litigation
  • Ability to handle complex cases and meet deadlines
  • Excellent research skills
  • Sound judgement
  • A thorough approach and an eye for detail
  • An analytical and enquiring mind
  • A commitment to the promotion and protection of the rights of consumers of health and disability services.

This is a full-time, permanent position, however part-time hours may be considered for the right candidate.
